Here I am as I strap
in and work up the nerve to go fly the plane I have spent 3 year building.

The engine stated
up just fine as usual and after a few checks, I taxi out to the runway.

And like a rocket
I am off in just a few hundred feet. Climbing like a home sick angel, I am
several hundred feet up before I am a thousand feet down the runway.

The tower lets me
climb to 4000' feet while staying close to the airport. I did some slow flight
and a few dutch rolls to get a feel for coordinating the turns. Tried out
the flaps to see how they affected the handling. I checked out the airspeed
indicator to see where the stall speed was. I then came back in for a landing.
While I did land safely, it was not my most graceful landing and I thumped
in kinda hard but the Sonex landing gear held up just fine. 7/26/02 |

Back at the hangar
several of the EAA Chapter 33 members were there to congratulate me. This
is the Chapter Young Eagle Coordinator and friend John Anderson.

It took a long time
for this grin to wear off. It also took me a few minutes to get my "land legs"
back so I could get out of the cockpit. 7/26/02 |

Here are a few more
of my friends from the Chapter, Larry Wood and Terry Scherman. Keith Williams
is the guy behind the camera. I would like to thank everyone in the Chapter
as well as the Sonex and Jabiru Email lists for the help, support and camaraderie
I have received as I have worked on this project and I look forward to may
more years of flying, fellowship and fun with everyone.
